Photo Essay: Location, Location

As the building dust settles and the excitement builds, photographer Ryan Howard interprets our new space.

Something can’t come from nothing, but in an empty space, anything is possible. This was the thinking at the Beauty Shoppe, as we tore down the interior walls of the Liberty Bank Building, opening up space and flooding it with light. Open space is essential for the free circulation of humans and their ideas. It's the architectural answer to the question of collaboration.

In Ryan Howard's evocative photographs, space appears still and silent, but also vital and alive. As light bleeds around window frames and cuts patterns on the floors, it activates surfaces - polished concrete, black wood, bare white walls - suggesting dynamic possibility. Seen through Howard's eyes, The Beauty Shoppe's new sister site does not look "empty" at all, but full of potential.
